Saturday Potpourri: Misaligned Priorities

by John on October 18, 2008

I’ve been a busy boy lately, and believe it or not a lot of it has had to do with this blog. Well, blog network. Sorta thing. Despite the almost complete lack of posting on my part, I’ve:

  • learned about Wordpress-mu
  • installed Wordpress-mu
  • navigated the transition of the one-blog-many-authors model to the many-niche-blogs-feeding-an-uber-blog model
  • tried to market Ray’s great economics posts while, simultaneously, learning how to market Ray’s great economic posts.

The good news is that each of those topics will yield interesting (I think) blog posts in the future. The bad news is that, to date, none of them have. At least not from me. Now, each of the bloggers whose advice I respect warn not to post “apology” posts, and I’m not going to do a big song and dance. Just sayin’, my head’s been elsewhere. Hopefully, you’ve been reading Ray’s excellent posts, and you’ll enjoy what we’ve got coming up. :)

Hey John,

Nice to see GU coming along. Your ‘proposal’ makes a lot more sense now that I can see it in action. Very interesting set-up. I’m monitoring my traffic closely post-election. Merging The Big Stick into a larger network may make more sense if political traffic starts to decline. Plus, I may run out of steam talking politics and policy without the fate of the free world hanging in the balance ;-)

We’ll have to continue that conversation.

Hey ya Mike,

First, sorry for the delayed response. I’m more than happy to continue the conversation, I think it would be a lot of fun. I don’t think Candid World is interested in coming along, but I think your work is stand-alone awesome; it doesn’t need a counter-balance to achieve value. (I just thought that would be neat.)

We can talk specific numbers some other time, but just to be honest with you, at the moment you wouldn’t be merging into a “larger” network, at least in terms of traffic. We’re definitely still in start-up mode around here. I do think the pieces are coming into place really to achieve something neat, though.
